Commercial kitchen hood and exhaust systems protected by ANSUL — including the widely used R-102 wet chemical system — require precise electrical integration to meet NFPA 96, NFPA 17A, and local fire codes. When the system activates, whether by fusible link or manual pull station, multiple electrical actions have to happen instantly and reliably:
- The exhaust fan continues running (or starts) to help disperse the agent and clear smoke
- Make-up air units shut down
- Power to cooking equipment under the hood is interrupted — via shunt-trip breakers or contactors
- Gas valves close
- The building fire alarm is signaled
- Hood lights turn off

Our ANSUL electrical services
Relays and microswitch interfaces. Proper connection of ANSUL microswitches and auxiliary relays to control contactors, shunt-trip breakers, gas valves, and alarm circuits. We verify correct NO/NC configuration and reliable signaling for both automatic and manual activation.
Exhaust fan motors and controls. Installation, replacement, and control wiring for hood exhaust fan motors and starters. We configure the system so the exhaust fan stays on (or is forced on) during fire suppression, per code and manufacturer spec.
Control wiring and interlocks. Full control circuit design and installation for hood lights, fan switches, make-up air units, demand ventilation systems, and equipment shutdown. Everything to NEC and local AHJ requirements.
Fire pull stations. Installation and electrical integration of remote manual pull stations. We locate stations for easy access (typically near exits), verify mechanical and electrical function, and confirm the full interlock sequence triggers correctly.
